Here is the recipe!
Goat'meal Cookies
2 cups rolled oats
½ cup wheat germ or whole wheat flour
1 cup of raisins (raisins are NOT for dogs, use Goji berries, cranberries, or blueberries in their place!)
4 carrots, grated or 2 cups grated carrots
1/2 cup molasses
1 cup applesauce or mashed bananas
1 teaspoon salt
Optional: anise or licorice extract, or a handful anise or fennel seeds (goats LOVE the flavor)!
Cinnamon, Ginger, Tumeric and Black Pepper can be added in small amounts as well.
Mix everything together and form small cookies. If things won't stick together well, add a little water a little bit at a time, until the mixture holds together. Drop by teaspoon onto nonstick or greased baking sheet. Bake at 325° for 25 minutes or so. Watch carefully, these can burn easily! Cool and store in an airtight container. If you have a food dehydrator, you can dehydrate these at about 135 degrees until they are dry & "cookie-like." A dehydrator is superior to an oven for this recipe, because the cookies are less-likely to burn but they will still hold together well.
Oats are a natural tonic and antidepressant. They help with insomnia and increase stamina. Goji berries have more zeaxanthin than any other food source and are great for supporting vision and eye health. You can use cranberries or lingon berries in their place for urinary tract health. Carrots are liver detoxifying. Molasses is a good source of iron. Cinnamon is great for warming and increasing blood flow to the extremities. Ginger is a good GI tonic and helps with digestion. Tumeric when added with Black pepper, heat, and fat is an amazing antiinflammatory. Fennel is great for urinary and GI health as well.
